Used Music Man StingRay
About the Music Man StingRay
The Music Man StingRay was designed by Leo Fender after he left Fender, and it shows β it took everything he learned and pushed it forward. The active preamp (one of the first in a production bass), chunky humbucker, and 3+1 headstock gave bassists a louder, punchier, more modern-sounding option than the passive Fender basses. StingRays are built to extremely high standards and they hold value well. The used market for StingRays is active but prices tend to stay firm because demand is consistent.

Buying Guide
- 1StingRay basses have active electronics powered by a 9V battery. Check the battery compartment for corrosion β a dead battery left inside can cause damage.
- 2Pre-Ernie Ball StingRays (1976-1984) are collectible and have a slightly different tone character. Post-Ernie Ball models are more consistent in quality.
- 3The 3-band EQ StingRay (post-1987) is more versatile than the 2-band original. Both are great, but the 3-band is easier to dial in for live use.
