Used Fender Jazz Bass
About the Fender Jazz Bass
The Fender Jazz Bass arrived in 1960 as a sleeker, more comfortable alternative to the Precision Bass — and ended up becoming an equally essential instrument. The narrower neck and dual single-coil pickups give the Jazz Bass a growly, articulate character that works across jazz, funk, rock, and R&B. The two-pickup design also offers more tonal flexibility than the P Bass; blend them together for a scooped tone, or solo the bridge pickup for that classic Jaco growl.
Solid body, offset double cutaway
Growly, articulate, and versatile; scooped mids when pickups blended
Jaco Pastorius, Marcus Miller, Geddy Lee, Larry Graham
Buying Guide
- 1Single-coil Jazz Bass pickups can hum when soloed individually. This is normal, not a defect. Noiseless aftermarket pickups are a popular mod if it bothers you.
- 2The neck width at the nut is narrower than a P Bass (1.5" vs 1.625"). Players with large hands sometimes prefer the P Bass neck.
- 3Geddy Lee signature Jazz Basses (both Fender and Squier versions) are excellent players that hold value well on the used market.
