The used keyboard and synthesizer market is thriving. Digital keyboards and synths hold their value well but still depreciate enough to make buying used worthwhile. Under $500, you can find professional-grade instruments that originally cost $700-$1,500.
For synths, the Korg Minilogue, Arturia MicroFreak, and Roland JD-Xi are excellent options under $500 used. These offer hands-on synthesis with real knobs and sliders — much more inspiring than software plugins.
For weighted keyboards and stage pianos, look at the Yamaha P-125, Casio PX-S1000, and Roland FP-30. These have 88 weighted keys with realistic hammer action and excellent piano sounds.
Vintage synths are also entering this price range. The Yamaha Reface series, Korg Volca line, and older Roland JV/XP rack units offer unique sounds that software cannot perfectly replicate.
